San Rafael Elementary Soil Remediation Update

On Thursday, April 16, the district hosted a meeting outlining the process for the removal of lead and arsenic from the San Rafael campus property.

The remediation work is scheduled to take place over the summer and is expected to be completed before students return to campus in August. Due to the significant levels of lead identified in the soil, a comprehensive process will be implemented. This includes the careful excavation of impacted soil, secure containment, and transportation to approved disposal facilities, along with ongoing environmental monitoring to ensure safety and compliance.

The PUSD understands that this work is of great importance to our families and staff, and is committed to maintaining transparency throughout the process. Additional information, including technical documents and updates, will be available through the PUSD website and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control EnviroStor database (Site ID: 60003910)
