Ave 64 Construction To Begin Jan. 8th!
2 Jan
A major construction project on Avenue 64 is set to begin on Jan. 8.
The project will have four stages. At a recent meeting, the Department of Transportation shared the details and project schedule for each stage with directly impacted households and the San Rafael Neighborhood Association. It’s important to understand the project schedule is subject to weather and other potential unforeseen impacts.
Stage 1: Jan 8 to Mar 1
- Preliminary work on parts of the project that can be done without heavy traffic control set-up will start on Monday, January 8.
- Pre-staging to include setting up K-rails, barriers and bringing in equipment will begin on Saturday, Jan 13.
- Burleigh Dr will be completely closed from Brentnal Rd to Avenue 64.
- Several homes on Burleigh will not have access to their driveway for days at a time but will have pedestrian access to their homes at all times and special street parking on Burleigh outside the closure zone. The project manager will work directly with impacted neighbors to coordinate access.
- General public will not have pedestrian access from Burleigh Rd to Avenue 64. Only impacted residents will have access to Burleigh Rd.
- Stage 1 will focus on grading the eastern lanes of Avenue 64 and Burleigh, building the eastern curb extension, sidewalks and curbs.
- Avenue 64 will remain open during construction, but the north and south lanes will be moved to the west most side of Avenue 64.
Stage 2: March 1 – March 22
- Underground infrastructure in the middle of Avenue 64 will be a primary focus.
- Avenue 64 will remain open, but the northbound lane will be moved along the east curb and the southbound lane will be moved along the west curb.
Stage 3: March to April 22
- Will focus on building the curb extension, sidewalks and curbs along the western side of Avenue 64.
- Avenue 64 will remail open, but the north and south lanes will be moved to the east most side of Avenue 64.
Stage 4: Aprill 22 to June 28
- The initial stage 4 phase will focus on the features on the northern corner of Burleigh and Avenue 64.
- The second phase will focus on the center median, roundabout construction and landscaping.
Cheviotdale and Glenullen Curb Extensions
- The curb extension buildouts at Cheviotdale will occur from Feb 22 to April 22.
- The curb extension buildouts at Glenullen will begin in August.
Other Notes
- The bus stop at Burleigh and Avenue 64 will be removed. Riders can continue to use existing stops at La Loma and Avenue 64 and Church and Avenue 64.
