SRNA Recognizes City Progress on Arroyo Fire Abatement

Following the Eaton Fire, representatives of SRNA met with City Manager Miguel Marquez in late March to share concerns about the risk posed by the amount of brush and fuel in the Lower Arroyo. Marquez shared the Year Round Abatement Efforts attached below but also indicated that work had been stalled following a cancelled contract with the Park, Recreation, and Community Services Department. Marquez committed to action in that meeting and has indeed delivered.

Work in the Arroyo began on May 1. Below you can see photos taken in the Northwest Lower Arroyo over the past week. Workers are clearing small brush and dead wood and placing in piles along the trail to be run through a chipper.

In the past week, a representative of SRNA met with Jose Mireles, the Superintendent of the Arroyo for the Parks and Recreation recently and reviewed the progress. While there is much work ahead, the city is committed to executing the Year Round Abatement Efforts. SRNA will continue meet with Mireles periodically to continue to review progress.

We would also like to note the effort that our Councilman Steve Madison has put in to make this work a priority. Steve highlighted the need for this work in his 4/24 town hall meeting and is committed to providing regular updates in the District 6 newsletter.
