LA City Council approves a resolution to OPPOSE all surface & tunnel fwy & hwy routes
27 Aug
Today the Transportation Committee of the Los Angeles City Council approved a resolution of Councilman Jose Huizar (resolution no. 12-0002-S82) to OPPOSE ALL SURFACE AND TUNNEL FREEWAY AND HIGHWAY ROUTES currently being studied by Metro, including the H-2, H-6, F-2, F-5, F-6, and F-7. THE F-7 WAS ADDED DURING THE MEETING, AND WAS APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY BY THE COMMITTEE.
This is an historic step toward defeating the 710.
THE LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER THE RESOLUTION TOMORROW AT ITS MEETING AT 10:00 A.M. EVERYONE MUST BE THERE AND WEAR RED TO SHOW YOUR OPPOSITION TO THE 710. LARGE NUMBERS ARE ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL. THIS WILL BE A MAJOR MEDIA EVENT, AND SHOWING A SEA OF RED IN OPPOSITION TO THE 710 WILL BE VITAL. We don’t know if we have the votes on the full Council, so we must convince them by our words and numbers.
Note that the LA City Council does not like signs/posters/etc., and may not let you in the building with them. So, this is why we are WEARING RED.
PLEASE CONTACT EVERY NEIGHBOR, EMAIL GROUP, FACEBOOK PAGE, ETC. YOU KNOW. MOREOVER, IT IS IMPORTANT TO SHOW FULL CITYWIDE LOS ANGELES OPPOSITION TO THE 710, SO IF YOU HAVE FRIENDS IN THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, WESTSIDE, HOLLYWOOD, SOUTH LA, OR ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE CITY OF LA, PLEASE HAVE THEM EMAIL THEIR LA COUNCIL MEMBER, THE MAYOR OF LOS ANGELES, AND THE CITY CLERK (AT june.lagmay@lacity.org ). THEY MUST DO THIS TODAY!!!
ALSO, for those who cannot attend (and even if you can), please email the City Clerk ( june.lagmay@lacity.org ) and state your SUPPORT FOR COUNCILMAN HUIZAR’S RESOLUTION 12-0002-S82 (agenda item 48 on Tuesday, August 28, 2012) AND OPPOSITION TO 710 FREEWAYS AND HIGHWAYS.
South Pasadena / La Canada / Glendale residents — please make sure your elected City officials are represented, since this is an historic opportunity to have the City of Los Angeles join with them in supporting 21st Century transportation alternatives and opposing freeways that cut through El Sereno, South Pasadena, Highland Park, Garvanza, and Pasadena, and that dump traffic and pollution on surrounding communities such as Glendale and La Canada (someday soon I hope Pasadena will be there fully too, and not just for certain routes).
